Local I/O

All SSL Live console models have the same types of Local I/O. The quantity of each I/O type varies for each model. A full list of I/O capacity by console model can be found at the bottom of this page.

The Live local I/O and Stageboxes use SSL's patented mic amp technology to deliver SSL SuperAnalogueTM performance with better than industry standard studio grade mic pre's combined with 24bit/96 kHz DAC's to deliver a frequency response that is within 0.05 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz (within 1.3 dB down to 10 Hz) and a THD of 0.005%. The circuitry is DC coupled (no electrolytic capacitors in the signal path) and high input impedance. Mic amp gain is controlled with extreme precision in more than 16,000 steps ensuring totally smooth control, very good common mode rejection and extremely low distortion.

SSL Live consoles feature SC Fibre and BNC coaxial MADI connections to interface with SSL Live MADI Stageboxes or other third party MADI devices.

A Dante Brooklyn II module offers 32x32 channels of I/O at 96 kHz (or 64x64 channels at 48 kHz) over a redundant connection. These Dante connections also offer mic amp control of SSL Network I/O Stageboxes.

Using SSL's Dante dual-domain routing, it is possible to make both the console side and the Dante side of the route from the console screen. So there is no need to use Dante Controller to make any routes.

Blacklight II

For higher channel count systems, SSL's proprietary Blacklight II high bandwidth transport connections are used to reduce the number of interconnecting cables. Blacklight II carries 256 @ 96 kHz audio signals, bi-directionally down a single fibre cable.

Blacklight II can be converted into MADI or Dante using a BLII-MADI Concentrator or a BLII-Dante Bridge respectively.

Blacklight II uses Neutrik OpticalCON DUO connectors.

Blacklight II is commonly notated as BLII.

SSL Live consoles also feature AES I/O with fully variable sample rate conversion.

* Front-mounted Talkback and Headphone connectors are wired in parallel with analogue XLR I/O sockets on the rear of the console for added flexibility. Simultaneous use of front and rear connectors is not recommended.

** Consoles can have both Blacklight II and X-Light interfaces fitted but only one can be in use at a time.
